At 9:30am on Saturday 13th February, Horsham yoga teacher Meg Thompson of Heartspace Yoga will host a special online yoga class to raise vital funds for Horsham District Foodbank.
Horsham District Foodbank is facilitated by Horsham Matters Limited (Registered Charity no. 1116253) and is part of The Trussell Trust’s network of 428 foodbanks, working to tackle food poverty and hunger in local communities across the UK. Between April and September 2020, the Trussell Trust’s network provided 1.2million emergency food parcels to people in crisis** – a record number that reflects the unprecedented challenges faced by many people since the coronavirus pandemic took grip.
Meg – whose Heartspace Yoga team currently offers a weekly schedule of yoga and meditation classes online via Zoom – is inviting yoga enthusiasts of all ages and abilities to book online and join her for the hour-long class.
This event will be Meg’s seventh charity yoga class, having previously raised vital funds for Australian Bushfire Relief, Streetlight UK, MIND, Help Refugees, Raleigh International, and Ourmala.
Meg Thompson, owner of Heartspace Yoga, commented:
“ There’s something very touching about unifying to raise funds for an important cause and this time we’ve chosen to support the incredibly important work of Horsham District Foodbank.
“As a result of the pandemic, so many more people are facing food poverty and Horsham District Foodbank is now relied upon by residents who are in desperate need of help. The Foodbank offers an essential lifeline to people who might have been made redundant and are now struggling to find enough for their weekly groceries, or families where children would ordinarily receive Free School Meals but cannot access them at the moment.
“The average cost of an emergency food parcel of three day’s long-life food is £15 for one person and this is then supplemented by donated fresh food from local supermarkets. Every penny donated will support someone who needs it, in our local community.
“Our charity class is open to all – even if you’re rusty or a beginner! Life can be stressful and now, more than ever, we could all benefit from taking an hour for ourselves to relax and move gently and mindfully. We’d love to welcome all yogis to our friendly Heartspace community, so please book your place and join me online on Saturday 13th February.”
