After receiving standing ovations and playing to sold out houses in 2019, character actors Jack Lane (Wisdom of a Fool & Dad’s Army Radio Show) and David Benson (Goodnight Sweetheart & One Man, Two Guvnors) return to The Capitol, Horsham with their beautiful staging of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, produced by the Engine Shed Theatre Company, from Saturday 12 until Tuesday 29 December.

Telling the story of Ebenezer Scrooges’ path to redemption from greed and selfishness to one of compassion and humanity. A powerful and touching story that will make you question your own generosity of spirit and wealth.

Jack Lane said: “Since it first appeared on 19th December 1843, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol has exerted a powerful emotional hold on our collective imaginations. It’s funny to think that our ancestors who lived one hundred and seventy-six years ago knew and loved Scrooge as we do now; and that we laugh and weep as they did then as the tale of Scrooge’s transformation unfolds.

“The book sold out its print run of 6,000 copies by Christmas Eve, as the public went wild for Dickens’s latest story. It has never been out of print since, nor ever will be as long as books are published.

” Dickens himself found the book over-poweringly emotional, and apparently wrote large parts of it blinded by his own tears. We found it moving to work on in rehearsals too and we hope that in telling this profoundly human story we can allow you to experience once again the particular magic of this timeless Christmas tale.”

Matthew Effemey, Operations Manager at The Capitol said: “This production of A Christmas Carol really is something special and we are delighted this two-man version of the classic tale will play in the main house this year.

“The pandemic has made it a tough year for everyone but the effect on people’s mental health is a major concern so we have decided to support The Horsham and Crawley Samaritans charity with bucket collections after each performance of A Christmas Carol.  We are absolutely delighted to have the support of their Patron, Dame Julie Walters who recently recorded a video announcing our partnership and urging the public to come along to see the play here at The Capitol.   Support for live theatre and mental health has never been more important.”

Tickets can be booked online at www.thecapitolhorsham.com Seating is socially distanced and the venue has recently been granted the use of Society of London Theatre & UK Theatre’s ‘See It Safely’ mark which means they are complying with the latest Government & industry COVID-19 guidelines to ensure the safety of their audiences & staff.
