Following much debate as to why cricket couldn’t have returned earlier, the recreational game is back. It may not be in quite the same form – the players arrive ready to play and bring their own tea, there are no shower facilities, the ball is regularly cleaned and should not be handled by spectators. But, cricket is back – the first of the recreational team sports to reappear after the lockdown.
On Saturday Horsham entertained Steyning, batting first and winning by 48 runs, courtesy of 101 from new signing Louis Storey and 3-16 from left armer James Brehaut.
Principle fixtures at Horsham Cricket Club this week are –
Tuesday: Ben Williams’ XI v Tom Haynes XI (the sides featuring a number of Premier League players)
Wednesday – Sussex Martlets v Nomads
Saturday – Horsham 1st XI v Cuckfield
All of these games start at 1pm on a 40 over per side basis, with the bar, garden area facing the pitch, and food and ice cream kiosk all fully functioning, with toilet facilities open.
Cup fixtures are expected to be announced shortly and news will follow
