Horsham launches new fund raiser – please help !

Martin Read – Sports Reporter

Horsham Football Club is proud and delighted to announce the launch of an exciting charity fundraising initiative.
Taking place from June 12th to July 12th – over what would have been the duration of the Euro 2020 tournament, the “Donate a Pint” campaign encourages football fans of all ages to get involved, by donating the price of a pint – or even more if possible – that they would otherwise have spent on soft or alcoholic drinks while watching the European Football Championship.
Commenting on the Hornets’ fund raiser, the club’s Community Engagement Officer, Ian Burlinson says: “With mental health problems on the rise, and the use of mental health charities also increasing during the current COVID-19 pandemic, the club recognises the importance of supporting charities and the people affected, and 100% of the money raised will go to local charity, West Sussex Mind.”
With sports clubs shut and so many suffering financial hardship, why is Horsham Football Club raising money for a charity and not themselves, as other clubs are doing around Sussex and beyond? Commendably, the club feels that as a community-based organisation, in the current climate it is only right that they should give something back to the community, which includes many football fans. Mental health awareness is important to us all, HFC says, and in the current situation many more people are affected, and in many different ways. And, with charities such as West Sussex Mind at the forefront of this challenge, the club chose to raise money for them in particular to enable them to increase their resources to support those in need. Also, HFC wanted to raise awareness of mental health in the community, helping to break the stigma that it can have.
Ian Burlinson adds: “West Sussex Mind is committed to changing attitudes, and increasing knowledge and understanding around mental health so that people living with such problems feel less isolated. Anyone can donate as many times as they like and, although the club is setting an initial £1400 target, we’d love to raise even more for this great cause. Our Just Giving donation page can be found here – – please do what you can to help us to boost our target!”
