Lucy Dennis wins Collyer’s Drama Prize

Lucy Dennis has won the Collyer’s Drama Prize for 2020 for her spellbinding monologue, taken from ‘Fleabag’, the popular British comedy drama television series.

Head of Drama and Theatre Studies Neil Kendall said: “Two weeks of online performances and various heats were all voted on by the students, with Lucy the winner for her excellent performance.”

Lucy said: “Lockdown has made performing harder, mainly because being in front of an audience in person allows you to gage how to perform as an actor. However, with the removal of any stage fright, I found it easier to channel a character and really think about my lines.”

Deputy Principal Steve Martell said: “Massive thanks to Neil Kendall, an award winning actor in his own right, and all of the talented drama students who took part. Huge congratulations to Lucy Dennis. She is a gifted performer.”

Neil added: “Lucy will receive her trophy when we return from lockdown and her name will also be engraved on our ‘Roll of Honour’ board, in the Memorial Hall.

“The other three finalists, Maya Bradshaw, Jack Lunniss and Katie Marshall were tied equally for second place, so there will be finalist medals for each of them when they return! Big congrats to Lucy and all of the participants.
