‘Hormonal Housewives’ is a witty, topical three hander comedy sketch show co-written by Scottish comedian and playwright Julie Coombe and her husband, playwright/director John MacIsaac, that comes to The Hawth Crawley on Wednesday 6 November for a riotous night out! Starring Suzanne Shaw (ex-Hear’Say, Dancing on Ice, Chicago in the West End), Julie Coombe (co-writer), and Josephine Partridge (Top Girls) – Hormonal Housewives is a show to make you smile and put a spring in your step – especially if you’re one of the girls!
Hormonal Housewives performed at a mammoth 64 venues across the UK during April, May and June; the mostly female audiences laughed at the cast, with the cast, at themselves and with everyone else as the show blasted its way through a catalogue of popular women’s bits: weight gain, weight loss, mood swings, housework, homework, electrolysis, men, sex, internet dating, chocolate and more.
Co-writer and performer JULIE COOMBE: “The audience reaction on the spring tour was quite overwhelming. We met so many inspirational women who wanted to share their stories with us after the show; stories that had us in fits of laughter and stories that had us tears [sic]. Our fantastic new Housewife, Suzanne Shaw, brings loads to the HH party – and that’s not just Hear’Say – haha! I am utterly delighted to be working with Josephine again too and looking forward to meeting more amazing women around the UK.”
SUZANNE SHAW is a singer, actress, TV presenter and former popstar – from Hear’Say to the West End (as Roxie in Chicago) to winning the third series of the ITV skating show Dancing On Ice, Suzanne’s many West End credits include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the Rocky Horror Show, Vagina Monologues, Cinderella, Aladdin and more. “I’m really looking forward to the tour of Hormonal Housewives,” says Suzanne. “One of the many things that appealed to me about doing HH was being able to tailor my part to fit around my own real life stories… and I have many!”
JOSEPHINE PARTRIDGE is based in south Wales with her husband, two young children and her dog. In 2017 she played the leading role of Marlene in Caryl Churchill’s Top Girls and joined the cast of Hormonal Housewives this year. “It was my first theatrical tour,” says Josephine. “We had a blast every night and the audiences were amazing. I’m delighted to be going out on tour again and I’m looking forward to Suzanne Shaw joining us – she doesn’t know what she’s in for!”
JULIE COOMBE Julie is a writer, actor, comedian and has appeared in numerous productions at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe. Her performance in Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues inspired her to create Hormonal Housewives with producer Michael Harrison and her co-writing husband, John MacIsaac. Julie’s TV credits include BBC TV’s River City; STV’s Take The High Road, while her comedy credits for the BBC include the sketch show Revolver and the sitcom Millport.
Director and co-writer JOHN MACISAAC is thrilled to be directing this version of Hormonal Housewives, having co-written the show and seen all the different casts and performances. John is a prolific actor, writer, director and teacher: his numerous theatre credits include Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens (Traverse), Babes in the Woods (Glasgow Pavilion), Jack and the Beanstalk (Ayr Gaiety) and many more. John has written comedy for BBC Radio Scotland’s The WhyFront and Scotland on the Couch and has directed dozens of shows at the Fringe.
