An exciting new Table Tennis programme exclusively for 7 to 11-year-old girls and boys is coming to Horsham at the end of the month.
Horsham Table Tennis Club is working with Horsham District Council’s Sports Development team to launch a new initiative to help youngsters develop a new sporting habit.
The club is amongst the first in the country to offer the new TT Kidz programme and will hold its first session on Monday 30 September from 6pm to 7pm at its Greenway Academy home in Greenway, Horsham.
TT Kidz is an eight-week programme developed by Table Tennis England to provide youngsters with an inspiring, engaging and fun first experience in the game.
Children will learn all the basic skills necessary to enjoy a great game of table tennis, as well as all the benefits that an active life brings, including fitness, hand/eye coordination, building social relationships and generally having a great time!
Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, Councillor Jonathan Chowen, said: “Promoting good health and wellbeing is at the heart of what we do at the Council and new programmes like this do much to support this.
“It’s great to see our Sports Development team working so hard to diversify their programmes to encourage as many young people as possible to try something new, get active, socialise and enjoy a new sport in such a supportive environment.
“It’s a real coup that Horsham is one of the first areas in the country to benefit from this programme.
“I would encourage as many families as possible to sign up their children and get them involved in this opportunity.”
Greg Yarnall, Head of Development and Volunteering at Table Tennis England, added: “TT Kidz is a significant investment and is aimed at attracting a new generation of players to enjoy the game.
“The programme has been put together in close consultation with specialist coaches to ensure the children have a positive, and above all, fun experience, while learning new skills.
“Funding support has been secured through both Table Tennis England and Sport England. This will allow more families to access the programme and all its benefits.
“We hope it will encourage them to join their local table tennis club and to keep a table tennis habit long into the future. I’m sure all the children who sign up will have a fantastic time.”
Once signed up, all children will receive their very own TT Kidz kit bag, holding everything they need to get started – including TT Kidz T-shirt, bat, balls and activity book/sticker album.
The 8-week programme is great value, which will include all the kit to keep as well.
Places are limited and expected to fill-up fast. More information can be found at www.ttkidz.co.uk
