The sun shone and a great crowd met up in Horsham Park on Friday (13 September) for The Horsham Memory Walk, organised by members of the Horsham Rusty Brains – a group of people living with dementia in the Horsham District. After a warm up session, all the walkers set off for two laps around Horsham Park. The Memory Walk was an event to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society.
The Capitol Theatre linked up with the Horsham Rusty Brains for advice when setting up their Dementia Friendly Film Screenings earlier this year and have established a good working relationship with the group, so members of staff from The Capitol were delighted to join The Memory Walk when they heard about it.
The Capitol’s Dementia Friendly Film Screenings are shown in a relaxed environment with the lights up, the sound low and no trailers, a comfort break if appropriate and the freedom to move around the cinema as required. Tickets cost £7 and include a cup of tea or coffee after the screening and customers are encouraged to socialise with others who have seen the film. Trained Staff at The Capitol are also on hand to provide a little extra support if required. CEA Card Holders are offered complimentary tickets for their Carers – their Box Office Staff will be able to provide more information (or visit ceacard.co.uk) ahead of your visit.
The next film will be Downton Abbey (PG) today (Friday 20 September) at 11am at The Capitol Horsham. It’s a chance to see the much anticipated film based on the hit period TV drama series.
Tracey Grubb, Sales & Marketing Assistant at The Capitol, said: “It was fantastic to catch up with some of our friends from the Rusty Brains Group at the Horsham Memory Walk and meet some new people whose lives have been affected by Dementia. We enjoyed the warm up and there was a lively atmosphere walking around Horsham Park.”
