On Monday 8 July a publishing evening was held for budding authors and people wanting to know more about the publishing industry at Collyer’s. Lesley Hart, Creative Writing Teacher, Adult Education at Collyer’s, explained: “Many of my current and past students formed part of our audience numbers in Collyer’s beautiful Duckering Hall. Other members of the audience came as a result of advertising in the local area through posters, and too on the Horsham Year of Culture website, also via Tweets about the event, and too via Horsham Writers’ Circle members.
“Speakers: Daisy White – author of psychological and cosy crime fiction, Juliet West – author of historical fiction, Sarah Swan – Book Blogger, and Kim Nye – Director at children’s publisher’s Maverick spoke to our audience about their journeys into self and traditional publishing, the importance of self-promotion, the role of book bloggers in marketing and promoting books for publishers, and too the submission process, together with the journey a book makes once it has been accepted for publication. Our speakers presentations were followed by an opportunity for our audience to speak to our presenters, and also to ask questions in our Q&A session. This lively and motivational evening has received lots of positive feedback, here are just two of the messages I’ve received:
“Thank you so much for organising that Published Authors event on Monday night. I genuinely found it fascinating – all the speakers were so candid and it was really inspirational hearing about their success stories.”
“As well as last night’s four speakers being lovely people, the plethora of information they relayed was interesting and valuable.””
