Planning application submitted for new Horsham school

Horsham District Council is pleased to announce that a planning application has been submitted for a new school at the Land North of Horsham development site off the A264 via Rusper Road.

Outline permission was granted for the development of the North of Horsham site in 2018 and this included the provision of education facilities.

The current application is the Reserved Matters application (ref: DC/19/1730) to assess the details of the school, including its design and layout.

The new school has been brought forward by the Department of Education in consultation with Legal and General, who are the applicants for the whole of the site.

This school will be a new Bohunt school and will provide a nursery for 50 pupils, a primary school for 420 pupils; including a reception, and a secondary school for 1200 pupils.  The school would also include a separate sports building, multi-use games areas and sports pitches.

Works are expected to start on site this winter.

Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Planning and Development Cllr Claire Vickers said:

“I am delighted that we have reached this milestone in the development of a new school site for Horsham.

“Horsham District is in urgent need of school places and this new school will go a long way to addressing this need.”

Currently, Bohunt Horsham are occupying temporary accommodation at Hurst Road in the town.  It is anticipated that they will move into their brand new accommodation at the North Horsham site in September 2021.
