Studio Theatre celebrates women in entertainment

The Hawth Studio, Crawley, will be paying homage to two great (and very different) women in entertainment  this summer.

Firstly, Breakthrough Theatre present Marilyn and ask who is Marilyn Monroe? One of the most iconic women in history, yet the world still asks the question, did we really know who she was?

This play explores the life and death of Marilyn Monroe to discover who the real woman was behind the glitz and glamour that made her so well known.

Marilyn’s story, told by Marilyn – alone in her dressing room, not the girl in that white dress with the pouting red lips and the curvaceous figure. Marilyn Monroe stripped back and bare – just an ordinary girl telling her story.

Marilyn premiered  at  the  Blue  Orange Theatre in July 2017. It went on to make it’s West End transfer to Leicester Square Theatre at the beginning of this year and comes to The Hawth Studio on Friday 14 June.

On Sunday 30 June, Kick In The Head present a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the loss of the great, unremittingly genteel, comedienne and monologist, Joyce Grenfell, Choice Grenfell.

It is a wonderful tribute featuring some of the best of Joyce’s hilarious songs and monologues from Stately as a Galleon and School Nativity Play to A Terrible Worrier and First Flight. Joyce is our guide for a delightful delve into some of her most endearing characters.

We are delighted that the family of William Blezard have allowed us access to previously unpublished rehearsal recordings and personal letters from Joyce allowing a unique insight into the queen of comediennes.

As Joyce would have said, “We request the pleasure of your company”, so head to The Hawth this June!
