With runaway leaders Chichester City needing just one point from their last
four games to be installed as champions, YM travelled to Newhaven with the
chance of putting daylight between the two sides battling for the second spot
in the table. And, YM led for more than half of the game, only to be
devastated when the hosts snatched a point with a goal well into extra time.
But, YM’s Keith Holmes told the District Post: “Newhaven started brightly and
could have gone ahead in the early stages after creating several great

Keith Holmes continued: “The second half saw YM press in the early
exchanges with Dean Bown hitting the bar, but as the game wore on the hosts
began to test the YM defence again, but the backline remained resolute until
the very last action of the game when Newhaven grabbed a point at the
death when the prolific Lee Robinson scored with a header, leaving honours
even at the end of a very lively encounter.” As a result, Chichester City head
the table with 85 points, with YM second on 73, Eastbourne Town third with
71 and Newhaven (70) fourth, but with a game in hand.
YM return home on Saturday to play mid table Hassocks, to whom they lost
heavily at The Beacon in the midst of the Christmas and New Year blues.
Then, after a break on Saturday 13th, they have their last three games in
quick succession – on Easter Saturday (20 th ) there is what is sure to be a hard
fought local derby against Broadbridge Heath at the Leisure Centre, followed
by two home games, first versus Crawley Down Gatwick on Easter Monday in
a re-arranged Boxing Day fixture, and, on the last weekend of the season –
Saturday April 27 th – they welcome Langney Wanderers to Gorings Mead.
