This week the Collyer’s Association announced at the Grand Prize Draw that it had raised over £2,000! The money will support student sponsorship schemes, with 10% going towards two of the college’s charities: the Tanzania Project and the Uthando community project in South Africa.
Award winning local travel company Africa Collection donated a fabulous first prize, a holiday for 2 to South Africa, a true ‘World in One Country’ that offers many fascinating & distinct natural features, regions, cultures & attractions, forming the modern Rainbow Nation that is South Africa. Co-founder, director and ‘Horsham boy’ James Westrip said: “We love Africa and the Indian Ocean. We still marvel at the scenery, we are awed by the power and rawness of nature, with every safari and wildlife experience as unique as the first.”
Staff Governor Rebecca Aylett gave a presentation about the valuable projects the Collyer’s Association supports. The Collyer’s Association Student Sponsorship Scheme gives students financial help to projects that could include: charitable work, pursuing a personal challenge, attaining sporting excellence, developing a skill or reaching their career goals.
Prizes won at the draw, held in the college’s Duckering Hall, also included: afternoon tea for two at South Lodge (courtesy of South Lodge Hotel), a Nespresso coffee machine, a £50 Giggling Squid voucher and an evening of comedy at Christ’s Hospital Theatre. In addition to this, the “Sussex Hamper” won at the draw included: Wine tasting for six at Mannings Heath Wine Estate, £25 voucher New Street Butchers, Brewhouse & Kitchen 5 litre beer keg, New House Farm cream tea for two; Horsham calendar (2019), Horsham gingerbread and Chocolate from Chococo.
The lucky winner of the “Leisure Hamper” received: 2 x adult fishing day at Sumners Ponds (1 rod each), a picnic blanket from Lumley & B, 2 jars of coffee, Yorkie chocolate and Kitkats from Nestle and a wine tour for 2 at Denbies Wine Estate. The “Pamper Hampers” included: £50 wash cut and blow dry with Emma at The Gallery. Back, neck and shoulder massage at The Beauty Rooms, Thomas Sabo bracelet from Wakefields, HQ £40 hair salon voucher, Aveda products from HQ, Two paperback books from Waterstones, Dairy Box and 2 Ruby Kitkats and Bath bombs from The Little Luxuries Company. The “Staying In” hamper comprised: Large candle from Lower Lodge, £10 Cook voucher, chocolate fish and chips from Chococo and Four books from Waterstones.
The Kids Hamper featured: a signed copy of Deadly Detectives by Steve Backshall, Two Sword Art DVDs, £10 Rockafella’s voucher, Sweets and Easter egg from Nestle and two Chococo lollipops. And finally, the “Uni Starter Kit” included a £50 Bills voucher, stationery from Staples and, last but not least, a frying pan & utensils!
