Strong Growth For Sussex Based IT Provider As It Eyes £3 Million Mark

Refurbished IT equipment supplier, Hardware Associates is set for continued growth in the next 12 months, following the launch of its new website which will see a greater shift towards online selling for the business.

In the last year, the business has become solely focused on the supply of refurbished PCs and laptops, having moved away from selling IT spare parts to the third-party maintenance sector. The company now employs a 15-strong team, which it’s set to expand in the next six months as it aims to reach a three million turnover by the end of its current financial year.

‘Innovate in order to grow’

Commenting on the firm’s success, Bill Champness, Managing Director, stated, “We’ve been around for over 20 years, so it’s easy to get complacent and stick with what you know. Of course, this is important in some respects but it’s also vital that you continue to develop your offering and innovate in order to grow.

As a refurbished IT provider, partnerships with key suppliers and resellers are fundamental across every sector we work within and the way partnerships operate changes overtime. It’s crucial therefore that you, as a business, adapt to this change.

We now do 60% of our business online, selling to end users through the likes of Amazon and eBay but we also sell via key partners across target sectors, especially the education market.

This is why we’ve launched a brand new website, so that we can work with more partners and end users online, alongside our traditional partners and customers who prefer to work face-to-face.”

Saving school and colleges budget

A key area that Hardware Associates is focused on developing is its presence in the education technology market.

Currently, it works with hundreds of schools and colleges across the South East region and nationally and this is something the business is focused on growing either through direct partnerships with education establishments or via authorised education resellers.

Champness continued, “We’ve seen our turnover and team increase because we understand the buying behaviours of our customers and realise that this constantly evolves – it’s how you adapt to this that, in my opinion, makes you or breaks you.

Online innovation

About a decade ago, we were selling refurbished kit through third party maintenance companies that look after the IT infrastructure of local authorities, banks and other large organisations and were responsible for keeping IT suites updated.

This business is now almost extinct, and we now provide refurbished equipment via our partner network, or directly to the end user through third party retailer sites, which is why it makes sense to bolster our online presence and provide a website that’s not just about learning more about us, and what we provide, but being able to sell and buy directly through our site too.”
