Slinfold Golf & Country Club is the only Club from Sussex to make the shortlist of finalists for the national, England Golf Awards 2019. Earlier this month, England Golf named the finalists for eight of the nine awards up for grabs. In showcasing our achievements in creating sustainable systems that will benefit members into the future, Slinfold Ladies have been shortlisted for the Innovation of the Year Award. The winners will be revealed at the awards dinner in London on 21 March.
Slinfold Ladies have also nominated long-serving member, Donna Davies, for the ninth award, the Lifetime Service Award, but England Golf is keeping its powder dry on who is in the running for that award until the night itself.
Commenting on being shortlisted, Lady Captain, Jenny Wise, said: “Last year’s Lady Captain, Jeanne Coker, really hit the ground running at the start of her year and she didn’t let up. Under Jeanne’s leadership, our Committee focused on maintaining and growing a united, relevant and appealing Ladies Section that offered competitive and social golf for a diverse group of ladies, across the age spectrum.
“Many of our recent new members have been new to the game and we wanted to give them all the support they needed as they progressed from coaching on the academy course, through getting a handicap, to playing in the Section’s competitions on the main course. We looked at how we could improve our newcomers’ experience and put in place a mentoring system that really paid off.
“Closely linked to the newcomer experience are our 9-hole competitions. A 9-hole format is the perfect confidence builder for those new to the game. The appeal of the shorter duration competition does not stop there, our 9-hole competitions have proved popular amongst our senior ladies, those recovering from injury and those who have many calls on their time, making them a perfect fit with contemporary lifestyles.
“Finally, the last of our innovations was to widen the use of our online golf management system. We livened up the imagery, made the site easier to navigate and created illustrated guides covering, amongst other things, rules, etiquette, and how to keep score. The system is now a valuable resource for the Section.
“We are proud to have made the shortlist – a fitting end to Jeanne’s year. May the best Club win!”
