Ariel Company Theatre, which has six established drama schools across Sussex, is delighted to have opened a new weekly drama class for adults with special needs. Drawing on many years of experiences working with students of all ages and abilities, Ariel believes that the benefits of acting, singing and dance extend beyond the achievement of performing on stage, but provides skills which benefit every aspect of daily life: “The Othellos classes in Horsham are thoughtfully devised for adults who may have conditions, such as Autism, Asperger’s, Down Syndrome, or who may be wheelchair users or have other physical challenges. Creative, full of fun and run by experienced tutors the classes make the Arts accessible to all, providing everyone with the chance to sing, dance, act and express themselves in a fun and safe environment.”
The new classes will take place every Monday at 6.45pm for one hour at the Roffey Millennium Hall, Horsham. Free trials are available and anyone aged 16 or over is welcome to come along. The classes provide a great opportunity to make friends and learn new skills and Ariel’s Buddy system means that students are supported, encouraged and made to feel very welcome at these brand new classes. Once a year students will participate in a showcase as part of the main Academy giving them the chance to perform on stage at the Hawth Theatre.
Othellos Tutor, Daisy Minords, said: “We are so excited to be bringing these new classes to Horsham. They provide the perfect opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills. The social aspect of these classes is very important and we often have other opportunities for the students to get involved in, from our community choirs to seeing Ariel productions, or participating in community events. Come along and give the classes a try! Everyone is welcome regardless of ability!”
