A group of Collyer’s Performing Arts students recently had the opportunity to take part in Samba drumming workshops at the world famous Pineapple Studios. The session was part of a busy theatre tour trip to the West End of London.
Neil Kendall, the Head of Drama and Theatre Studies at the Ofsted Outstanding sixth form college, said: “Our students are always looking for ways to fuse physical theatre with music, so this workshop was the perfect opportunity. At the end of each year, they create a devised musical over a four week period, so we are looking forward to great things – and lots of drums!”
Located in the heart of the West End Theatre district, Pineapple Studios is a well-known rehearsal studio used by stars such as Beyoncé, Madonna and Kylie Minogue.
Neil added; “Huge thanks to Pineapple Studios for hosting us – they’ve been absolutely fantastic and gave us an incredibly warm welcome.
“The sessions were brilliant and the students acquitted themselves wonderfully!”
As part of the trip, the students also enjoyed the unique opportunity of special access to the press night of the National Theatre’s ‘Hadestown’.
Assistant Principal, Andrea John, said: “Massive thanks to the Neil Kendall and the Performing Arts team for organising these wonderful opportunities for our talented students.”
