Horsham’s brightest sporting talents were recently honoured at the 2018 Set4Success Awards at South Lodge Hotel. The event, now in its eighth year, celebrates and recognises the achievements of young talented sports people in the Horsham District. To date 161 awards have been given. Previous winners include England golfer Marco Penge, Commonwealth Games Hockey Silver Medallist Lucy Woods, and Brighton and Wales footballer Bronwen Thomas.
This year’s recipients of the award were Owen Street (Waterpolo), Charlie Ferris (Triathlon), Amber Ranson (Swimming), Corlia Robertson (Judo), Emily Orman (Football), Joshua Tavolieri (Basketball), Ellie Worrall (Judo), Harvey Claridge (Motor Cycle Racing), Orla Brothers (Athletics), Thea Kirton (Taekwondo), Caitlin MacGregor (Trampolining), Alexandra Baker (Basketball), Harry Baker (High Jump), Fynn Talley (Football), Zack Wake (Judo), Ryan Elnaggiar (Judo), and Marcus Rolfe (Judo). Unfortunately, four winners could not be present at the event, as three were away studying, following their award of scholarships to Universities in USA and UK, and one was representing England in an International football contest in Dublin. Set4Success is delighted to have selected and rewarded such remarkable talent. Top BBC commentator, Simon Brotherton, presented the awards and gave an inspirational talk about the joys and hazards of being a top event commentator, and highlighting how similar they are to the ups and downs encountered by leading sports stars.
Set4 Success is a charity that aims to help young Horsham based sports people achieve their dreams. It was initially founded in 2010 by Horsham Rotary Club, with Horsham District Council, Horsham Schools, and Places for People joining the venture before the initial launch. Currently, additional sponsors and supporters are Wakefield Jewellers, Kreston Reeves, ATOM, Tactic Counsel, Treetop Design and Print, and most recently, AAH Magazine, with Editor and Proprietor, Ben Morris, now part of the S4S Management Team. Set4Success is always seeking new sponsors and would love to hear from any organisation that would like to be associated with helping our future sports stars. We can be contacted via our Facebook Page: ‘set4success’.
A cheque of £1,000 from North West Sussex Seagulls, the local Brighton & Hove Albion supporters club, was gratefully received at the event. This money comes from collections taken on the coaches taking BHAFC fans to and from the AMEX Stadium. Thanks to all those fans who contributed.
