Crates Local Produce in Horsham’s historic Carfax are the deserving winners of the Horsham District Year of Culture 2019 Spirit of Horsham AmeriCARna Award for their authentic shop displays during the American themed town centre event earlier in September this year.
The iconic corner shop entered into the spirit of the event with its window dressings, ‘moonshine bar’ and American themed costumes. The owners even hosted Elvis in the building, providing a changing room for ‘The King’ himself before he took to the stage on the Carfax bandstand.
After presenting the award to Crates owner, Marion Carter, Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Jonathan Chowen, commented: “We were delighted to sponsor this award and I congratulate Crates for getting into the spirit of the AmeriCARna event.
“This level of enthusiastic involvement is just what our independent businesses should be looking to achieve to get the most from these brilliant town centre event opportunities.
“Look out for the many more events which will be coming to all towns and villages across our District during the Horsham District Year of Culture 2019’.
Tens of thousands of people flocked to Horsham’s AmeriCARna event on Sunday (30 September) and enjoyed a celebration of all things American in the town centre and Horsham Park.
Thanks to Horsham District Council expanding on last year’s first AmerciCARna event, visitors were able to enjoy a spectacle unmatched in recent times with more car and bike displays, more food and drink, an American sports zone, an indoor activities area and much more.
Altogether a great fundraiser for the event charity, St Catherine’s Hospice.
