Iconic, Sussex-based lemon drink supports national ‘Lemons’ campaign for Breast Cancer

Billingshurst-based iconic sugar-free pure lemon juice brand PLj have launched a campaign, in partnership with ‘Know Your Lemons’ and Tenovus Cancer Care, to create awareness about the 12 signs of breast cancer through a striking image of lemons in an egg box, with each representing a different possible symptom.
The illustration is being carried in a free awareness booklet on the necks of over 100,000 bottles of PLj lemon juice, currently in supermarkets and health food shops, throughout Sussex and also up and down the country. It is also being featured on Plj funded posters, which organisers hope to spread throughout GP surgeries throughout Sussex, and UK-wide. The posters carry the Tenovus Cancer Care Helpline number, for those with any concerns.
An initial print run is currently being distributed to surgeries by NHS Brighton & Hove Clinical Commissing Group (CCG), Guildford & Waverly CCG, and North East Hampshire & Farnham CCG, and is going into 500 surgeries in Wales, as well as Tenovus charity shops. Plj are calling on people that have contacts in surgeries, or other clinical commissioning group,s to contact them – – to help spread awareness further.
First launched in the 1950’s, primarily as a sugar-free drink that could aid a calorie-controlled diet, the PLj brand has recently been re-packaged, but the contents have stayed the same. PLj know their lemons from a health perspective: as well as making a refreshing drink and as an ingredient in baking, and cooking, each serving of these natural sugar-free cordials provides 75% of the RI of Vitamin C. Both the lemon and lime juice also contain many other health-giving qualities, from improved skin to maintaining a healthy digestive system.
Cliff Moss, MD for Billingshurst based Healthy Food Brands, the manufacturers and distributors of PLj, said: “We’re honoured that PLj, an iconic, healthy, heritage lemon juice brand, is partnering with two such amazing charities, in creating awareness of the signs of Breast Cancer, a campaign which literally saves lives.”
