The county council purchased the site in December, 2016, to build on its long-established position as a major employment centre. Feasibility and design work has been taking place to develop proposals for a mix of business and residential use to meet local needs.
A community stakeholder event was held in July to look at initial suggestions and now the public can view the draft proposals at an information event at The Holbrook Club, North Heath Lane, Horsham RH12 5PJ. People can talk to members of the project team and provide feedback, any time between 4pm and 9pm on Wednesday, 26 September.
Louise Goldsmith, county council Leader, said: “We believe the exciting proposals for this prime Horsham site present a great opportunity to provide a mixture of much needed, high-quality business space and new homes – but we really want to hear what people think about them. Feedback from this public consultation will be invaluable.”
Approximately two-thirds of the site is planned for commercial developmen,t to create and support higher-value employment, and one-third for residential development, which will include affordable housing. The 1930s Art Deco building will be retained.
It is expected that an outline planning application will be submitted to Horsham District Council later this year. Work on the site is not expected to begin before 2021 and could take around five years to complete.
Anyone who cannot attend the information event will be able to view and comment on the proposals online, via the county council’s Have Your Say consultation hub, from 26 September.
The county council purchased the site from global health care company, Novartis, for £16million, and the authority received £3.66million from the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership Local Growth Fund, towards the cost of the acquisition.
