Let’s help turn a tragedy into much needed support

What is the worst thing that you can imagine happening to your family? Could you cope, and how would you react? Caroline is appealing to local residents to help her honour her mum, Hannah Leonard, who was murdered in her London flat in February. Caroline  is creating a charity – Hannah’s Wings – to support families bereaved by murder, manslaughter and suicide. Caroline tells us: “The lengths my family has had to endure to pick up the pieces of our lives after Mum’s death have been almost unbearable – I want no other family to have to suffer as we have. For that reason I am appealing for help from the wonderful Horsham district community – government support is massively lacking in all areas for victims of murder, there is a compensation system put in place by the government, however this can take up to two years to come through – the funds are not available when you need them most.”            When the tragedy happened Caroline was away on the first day of a holiday with her four children. She received a phone call from the police to give her the shocking news and she was not even given the chance to see her mum one last time. Caroline’s goal is to offer support for murder victim families and to protect them from financial pain in the wake of their loved one’s passing and she says: “If I can prevent even one family from experiencing what I have gone through then I will feel some comfort in light of all that has transpired and I have set up a GoFundMe page to start Hannah’s Wings.”

Caroline has raised 2,500 pounds and needs to double that amount to become a registered charity – so she is looking for support. Please come along to her CHARITY FAMILY FUN DAY – from noon until 6pm at Barns Green Playing Fields, Muntham Drive, RH13 0PT on SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 15th. It will be an action packed day and entry is FREE!
