Horsham District Jobs and Skills Fair a huge success

The 2018 Horsham District Jobs and Skills Fair was, once again, a storming success, as hundreds of jobseekers made their way to the Drill Hall, Denne Road, Horsham on 19 September to search out new work and training opportunities.

Organised by Horsham District Council and sponsored by the Federation of Small Businesses, the fourth annual Jobs and Skills event was a platform for some 43 employers, training and college organisations, as well as voluntary groups and charities from the local area, to attract new employees, apprentices and volunteers.

In all, over 500 opportunities were available on the day and over 400 visitors took advantage of the wide range of sectors and vacancies on show. There were also free employability workshops provided by the National Careers Service, supporting CV preparation, Interview technique, and advice about digital applications and social media.

The exhibiting employers reported that they were expecting to recruit nearly 100 people, as a direct result of the event. No doubt more vacancies will be  filled in the coming days and weeks.

Horsham’s MP, Jeremy Quin, once again paid a visit during his packed schedule. Always keen to support such positive events for the District, Mr Quin was particularly impressed with the range of employers present, with some big hitters amongst the large exhibitor list, including Metricell, Chess Dynamics, Assurity Consulting, and Stoba UK.

There was also a significant presence from the hospitality industry, with Cisswood House Hotel, Beefeater, Bill’s and Smith and Western recruiting. In uniform were the ever-present and popular British Army, and UK Border Force complete with a sniffer dog.

Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for the Local Economy, Cllr Gordon Lindsay, was also a keen attendee: “I was very impressed with the selection of employers attending and happy to see some major recruiters from the Horsham District supporting this event. The availability of jobs shows that many of our local companies are thriving in difficult economic conditions, and recruiting for growth, which is a good sign”.

In March 2019, Horsham District Council and West Sussex County Council will, once again, be holding the very successful and popular Apprenticeship Fair in the Drill Hall and a date will be announced shortly.
