Voting now open for Most Deserving Grandparent award in West Sussex

Highwood Mill are hosting their first Most Deserving award, giving recognition to grandparents in West Sussex who are going the extra mile for their families.

Horsham’s most recent retirement development put out the call for people to nominate grandparents, who go above and beyond, for the chance to win afternoon tea for four at Highwood Mill.

Rachel Richards, of Highwood Mill, said: “We were delighted with the quality and number of nominations received. It was lovely to read how so many grandparents really make the difference. We have managed to shortlist the entries to three but we only think it is fair if we leave it to the public to decide who should be the winner.”

Voting is now open and the public are invited to get in touch with the name of the person they think should be crowned ‘Most Deserving Grandparent’.

Ruth Tunnell

Ruth was nominated by her 4 month old granddaughter Harriet: “The first people to visit me when I was born were my Grandma and Grandad. My mummy got very poorly after she had me and she had to spend lots of weeks in hospital, so my daddy had to look after me all by himself. My Grandma took time off work and gave my daddy so much help and support, and even decided to work part time, so that she can help look after me when my mummy goes back to work. My grandma deserves to win the award for best ever grandma as she always goes that extra mile.”

Brian Budgen

Brian was nominated by his daughter Clare: “I am nominating my dad Brian, as he’s the most loving, kind and friendliest man you could ever meet. He has 9 grandchildren and a great grandchild on the way! He goes, and has always gone, above and beyond to help his family. He is so loved and respected by all of his grandchildren – in their words he’s a legend! He deserves to win because he is just amazing.”

Susan and Michael Wren

Susan and Michael were nominated by their granddaughter Holly: “I would like to nominate both of my grandparents, Susan and Michael. They go above and beyond for all of their children and grandchildren; they are always babysitting or puppy sitting, and giving up their own free time, and never ask for anything in return. They have provided roofs over our heads when needed, and are always the people we turn to when we need advice.”

Please send your nominations to with the name of the person you’d like to vote for.

Voting closes at midnight on 23 August 2018.
