Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens to be first official sponsor of Horsham District Year of Culture 2019

The first official sponsor of the Horsham District Year of Culture 2019 is to be Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens in Lower Beeding, West Sussex.

Leonardslee Gardens is set to reopen in March 2018, and is expected to become one of the most visited tourist attractions in the district.

The alliance between Leonardslee and the Year of Culture 2019 will continue across the entire year, with events set to take place at the site, encompassing music, entertainment and food and drink events. The celebratory launch of the Year of Culture on New Year’s Eve 2018 will be hosted at the Gardens.

As the project’s sponsor, Horsham District Council is coordinating the Year of Culture, working closely with advisors representing arts and heritage throughout the community.

Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure Cllr Jonathan Chowen, commented: “I am delighted that Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens have agreed to be our first official sponsor of the Horsham District Year of Culture 2019.

“I feel this is a very natural partnership, as the aims of Leonardslee and the Year of Culture 2019 are very similar; encouraging residents to discover what hidden gems there are on their doorstep, as well as promoting an inviting attraction to tourists from outside the district.”

Adam Streeter, the owner of Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens, said of the sponsorship: “We realised from the outset that this was a most significant project to be associated with. The Year of Culture for 2019 presents a massive opportunity for our district’s community, its residents, visitors and businesses, and we are thrilled to be playing such a major part in it.

“Our organisations are very aligned in our shared goals of promoting the district as a vibrant host to rich cultural and heritage experiences, which in turn will benefit the growth of our local tourism economy.”
