Forest School hosted their annual PE Awards Evening, on Wednesday 19 July, to celebrate a tremendous sporting year for the school. Lenny Daws (former British Light welterweight boxing champion) gave a passionate and inspirational speech about what is takes to succeed at the highest level in elite sport; His key message being ‘hard work and dedication is crucial to fulfil one’s sporting ambitions’. Pupils in attendance have performed exceptionally well in their chosen sports this year, but know if they want to progress further they must continue to work hard to improve.
The tremendous success experienced by Forest pupils resulted in over two hundred fixtures being played throughout the year, across the five year groups, in a multitude of activities. As a result, a large number of pupils received their half or full colours in activities ranging from cross country to rugby. Individual sporting Winners for outstanding sporting perofrmances were as follows: Football Award – Freddie Harper, Rugby Award – Fraser Russell, Cricket Award – Sam Henderson, Athletics Award – Seb Wallace & Basketball Award – Josh Tavolieri.
The Awards evening highlighted many of the successes Forest experienced this year. This included the Year 9 football team reaching the National Cup semi-finals, winning the county cup and the district cup. The Year 8 football team won the district cup and the county shield, whilst the Year 7s had a great first year at secondary school level, winning both the football and cricket district competitions. The year 10s won the football district cup, and were runners up in the district rugby competitions, and in their last year at secondary school the year 11s reached county finals in both football and basketball. Also, seven individuals were selected to represent Mid-Sussex in the Sussex Schools Athletics Championships. These boys were Josh Barnett, Bradley Burke, Jordan Levey, Luke Burgess, Fynn Wright and Ash Williams.
The Forest PE Department would like to thank all the pupils who have represented the school in sporting fixtures and contributing to a fantastic year.
