Over the past two years Swan Walk Shopping Centre has provided valuable space for Hop, Skip & Jump whilst they looked for their forever home within Horsham. The charity, which provides unique immediate and flexible respite care for families with disabled children, has made the decision to leave Swan Walk Shopping Centre, this week, to focus on finding a permanent home with outdoor space.
The Horsham Care in High Street premises was the second of its kind and, following its success, Hop, Skip & Jump have now gone on to open a further centre in Liverpool, to add to their 4 others. In the charity’s time at Swan Walk, the dedicated team of both staff and volunteers have provided support to hundreds of families across the county.
A charity shop located next to the Hop Skip, & Jump Care in the High Street premises, which was run entirely by volunteers, raised an impressive £2,234.05.
“I would like to thank all the staff at Swan Walk for their fabulous support during our time in Horsham and of course our own staff, volunteers and families;” said Hayley Stone, Chief Executive Officer from the Hop, Skip and Jump Foundation
Hop, Skip & Jump is urgently seeking a larger premise in Sussex to fulfil the needs of those who have complex and life limiting illnesses.
Gill Buchanan, Swan Walk Centre Manager commented: “Having been introduced to the inspirational leaders at Hop, Skip and Jump, the team at Swan Walk was delighted to be able to help them out with a temporary home to enable them to establish their offer whist looking for their long-term premises. We have only just been advised of their decision to close this month, but we wish them all the very best for the future and hope that they are able to secure a new, and permanent, Sussex base with outside space as soon as possible, so that they can continue their fantastic work.”
About the official closure, which takes place today, Haley Stone announced: “Hop, Skip, & Jump will be offering tea and cakes all day on Friday 9th. All are welcome to come along and celebrate their time at Swan Walk, whose staff have been fantastic to us.”
