Sussex Premier League
Horsham 111 All Out (27.5 overs) East Grinstead 114-5 (26.4 overs)
East Grinstead won by 5 wickets
Put in to bat on a damp wicket at the Saint Hill Ground Horsham posted an inadequate score, which was overtaken by East Grinstead with plenty of overs and wickets in hand.
Horsham reached 41-2 and then 95-5 but wickets then tumbled in a combination of good bowling and fielding and some disappointing shot selection. Leg spinner Bradley Hatchett took four of the last five wickets for three runs, engineering Horsham’s collapse. His brother Lewis was released from the Sussex squad at Hove to take 2-25, Ian Sturmer and Will Adkin sharing the remaining spoils. For Horsham Joe Ludlow, Craig Gallagher, Tom Johnson and Jamie Thornely all made promising starts, but were unable to progress into the thirties and beyond and the other seven batsmen could only amass 11 between them. Horsham were denied the services of Will Beer, playing a long-awaited four day game for the county but fought hard to reduce the hosts to 51-4 amid rain stoppages. Sam Cushing took the first three wickets and Jofra Archer and Michael Munday chipped in with one apiece, but an unbeaten 60 from Regan Derham and a rare dropped catch enabled East Grinstead to win with limited worries.
Former Horsham Captain Craig Gallagher told the District Post: “It was great to have Jofra bowling again following his injury – he delivered real pace on the slow wicket. A target of 150 might have made it interesting but it wasn’t a good day at the office for us!”
Horsham remain top – 17 points clear of Cuckfield and 26 ahead of Roffey, who have a game in hand. Next Saturday Horsham visit, Brighton & Hove who are currently hovering just above the relegation zone.
