Sussex Gray-Nicholls T20 Cup
Bognor Regis 143 All Out (19.1 overs) Horsham 145-2 (16.1 overs)
Horsham won by 8 wickets
Two outstanding performances by Horsham’s two Michael’s – Munday and Thornely powered them through to the T20 Quarter Final. Horsham won the toss and put Bognor in to bat. A 76 run opening stand promised much, the first four batsmen getting good starts, Max Ashmore leading the way with 47, but the Thornely brothers had other ideas – Jamie taking 1-10 and Michael 3-29. Then, after snaring an opener, Michael Munday sank the middle order almost without trace, taking four wickets in seven balls for one run, the last six Bognor wickets crashing for ten runs, Michael finishing with 5-8, including two LBWs and a stumping, off his four over allocation. Then Michael Thornely decided enough was enough, plundering 106 not out in 64 balls with 13 fours and 4 sixes, Horsham steamrollering home with 23 balls still in the bank.
Horsham skipper James Johnson said: “To be fair to Bognor they were batting well until we pegged them back and then they had no answer to our two magic Michaels!”
Horsham go through to the Quarter Final on Sunday July 3 with a home tie against Preston Nomads, commencing at 15.30. Earlier (noon start) Horsham seconds play Portslade in their T20 QF, also at Cricketfield Road.
