The new chairman of Horsham District Council began his year with a slogan.
Cllr Christian Mitchell, a former Collyer’s college student, said after his election by fellow councillors “My chairman’s theme for this year is ‘One Horsham District, fair for all’ and so I have chosen The Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity, The Springboard Project, and St. John Ambulance, Horsham Division as my three Chairman’s charities that I wish to promote this coming year, alongside the Chairman’s Charitable Trust Fund.”
Cllr Roger Clarke was appointed the vice chairman.
Cllr Mitchell takes over the role of Cllr Tricia Youtan, chairman for the past year.
Cllr Mitchell said: “I am deeply honoured to be elected Chairman of Horsham District Council for the coming year.
“We all know how special the Horsham district is with its beautiful countryside and South Downs and our historic market towns and villages. It’s the envy of every other district.
” I look forward over the coming year to meeting as many people across Horsham district – those that work tirelessly in the voluntary sector and in support of our local charities, those that provide jobs and work here and those that study, teach and live here as well as those in the Armed Forces and those that keep us safe; the police, fire and the ambulance service.
” As Chairman of Horsham District Council I am proud of the opportunities we provide for all in the district. Horsham has given me huge opportunities; studying at The College of Richard Collyer and my first job was in Horsham which supported me through college and university.
“This year is of particular significance. It is the historic 90th anniversary of the birth of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her selflessness and dedication to public life are an inspiration to us all.”
