During the last 12 months Horsham’s Set4Success Charity, which helps our young sports stars achieve their dream, organised a series of sports challenges amongst local businesses and other organisations. Among those taking part were Spofforths, ATOM, Sony DASD, Barclays Bank, Wakefield Jewellers, Colliers, Horsham District Council, PfP Leisure, Christ’s Hospital Bluecoats, Durrant Removals and Horsham Rotary Club. The sports involved were Snooker, Bowls, Stoolball, Soccer, Table Tennis, and ending with a sports quiz. The series raised over £1200 which will be used to fund some more awards to our sporty youngsters.
The overall Competition was won by Barclays Bank Horsham. Barclays also won the Snooker and Quiz, with Horsham Rotary winning the Bowls, Spofforths winning the Table Tennis, Collyers winning Soccer and Bluecoats winning the Stoolball. Most of the teams that participated in the challenges attended the quiz evening and were thrilled to meet Jade Lally and hear about her hopes for Rio in the summer. She is currently the World’s number 5 ranked discus thrower based on 2016 events and has already thrown the qualifying distance. Previous Set4Success award winner Hannah Patchett was also present and talked about her achievements as part of the Great Britain water polo squad.
The 2016 Challenges will start shortly and archery, shooting and canoeing will be added to the sports included in a fun competition suitable for all comers. Organisations do not have to participate in every sport – just the ones that they want to. Set4Success secretary, John Le Rossignol, invites any group or business that would like to participate to contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org to receive full details.
The latest Set4Success award winners are: Cecily Turner (Water Polo), Alexandra Baker (Basketball), Emily Orman (Football), Alexandra Malzer (Hockey), Reece Besley (Artistic Gymnastics), Zoe Gaudiano (Acrobatic Gymnastics), Verity Bashford (Trampolining), Jamie Brown (Kickboxing) and swimmers Michael Pallister, Rebecca Barber, Daniel Jones, Lily Davis and Freya Fulcher.
Set4Success is a Horsham charity that supports youngsters who live or go to school in Horsham District and excel at their chosen sport. Set4Success is a cooperative venture between Horsham Rotary Club, Horsham District Council, Horsham Secondary Schools and PfP Leisure with support from local sponsors, ATOM, Spofforths, Ringway, Wakefields Jewellers, and Treetop Design & Print.
