At the recent Tennis Sussex Awards, held at the Amex Stadium, Horsham players Mars Schellevis and Lorraine Burlinson received their Women’s Tennis Sussex Summer Doubles League 4 winner’s trophy.
The Ladies team at Horsham have shown continued improvement over the last few seasons, having finished runners-up in the Summer League Division 6 in 2014, they were promoted two leagues and played in division 4 this summer, and took the title of league winners.
Horsham Ladies Captain, Tessa Walder, said: “from a small core of seven match players we have built a brilliant team spirit, and winning the league title this year has been well deserved. My job would be so much harder without their enthusiasm, thanks to all the team, Gail Burlinson, Linda Lewis, Donna Copeland, Veronika Lang, Mars Schellevis and Lorraine Burlinson”
Playing in a league of seven, against other clubs from across the county, Horsham finished the season with four wins, one draw and one loss, enough to win the league by two clear points.
Tessa Walder, added “we are really enjoying our tennis at the moment and that is reflected in our results, currently we’re playing our winter league matches and so far have two wins from two. Next summer we shall be competing in the Sussex Leagues and in the Aegon Team Tennis Sussex competition. I’m also really excited as we have some junior players coming up that I’m sure will be vying for a place in the team very soon. We would love to be able to enter a second team into the leagues, so are always on the lookout for ladies who want to play some competitive tennis.”
