Police forensics a magnet for students

More than 1000 Sussex students flocked to the Amex Stadium to hear about police forensics.

Experts were almost overwhelmed by the reaction to their offer to brief teenage students in Sussex about their work.

Students were given a free personal insight into a possible career in police forensics during a special open day.

The Surrey and Sussex Forensics team talked to students about the realities of working in police forensics, explained the different career options on offer and the qualifications needed.

Brian Gilbert of the Forensics team said; “The level of interest was a real eye-opener. Students left the event with a clearer idea of what’s involved in a career in police forensics and what personal qualities, skills and qualifications are required.

“We carry out a range of work, from scenes of crime examination, to fingerprint examination, and photography. This is a very specialised and professional support to the police and I’m sure the students who came along found food for thought.”
