A trainee gas engineer from Horsham has won his company’s Apprentice of the Year award.
Oliver Crutchfield, 24, who works at SGN’s Sussex depot in Blatchford Road, Horsham, was chosen out of almost 200 of his peers to win SGN’s top Apprentice of the Year accolade. He also carried off a second award for Best Depot Apprentice in SGN’s Southern region.
He joined the company in August 2012 and is just about to qualify as a gas engineer. Once qualified, he will work as an emergency engineer at SGN’s Sussex depot.
Oliver said: “Doing my training with SGN has allowed me to continue my studies and get more qualifications, while at the same time gaining really valuable on-site experience. It’s also given me the chance to experience lots of different aspects of the company’s business, from responding to emergency call-outs to replacing gas mains and installing new meters.”
Oliver’s mentor, Emergency Team Manager, Christian Bassett, said: “Ollie has shown a remarkably positive attitude over the past 12 months while doing his training as an emergency engineer, and going forward he will be a real asset the Sussex team. I look forward to managing and coaching him on a daily basis as a fully qualified engineer.”
