HAODS dreaming of an all-singing, all-dancing, white Christmas

HAODS have caught the festive bug in style this year and while the bookies are predicting a White Christmas, there is a 100% chance of snow at The Capitol.

Christmas is starting off with all-singing, all-dancing sparkle in Horsham this year, as HAODS (Horsham Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society) bring the classic Irving Berlin musical, ‘White Christmas’ to the stage.

Based on the 1954 Paramount movie of the same name, ‘White Christmas’ brings you the story of two ex army – turn Broadway stars; workaholic Bob Wallace (Kevin Summers) and serial womaniser Phil Davis (Martin Bracewell), who team up with sister act Betty and Judy Haynes (Alicia Marson and Rachel Farrant) as they try to save their old army commander General Waverly’s (Howard Collis) ski lodge in Vermont. It’s a story filled with colourful characters, including ex-superstar turn receptionist Martha (Tess Kennedy), the General’s smart-aleck granddaughter Susan (Ellie Attfield & Emily Falkner), and sexy, but ditsy, chorus girls Rita & Rhoda (Daisy O’Sullivan & Jackie Shepherd).

Packed with mischief, misunderstanding and a whole lot of Christmas romance, and set to a backdrop of exciting energetic dance routines, with classic musical numbers, including ‘Sisters’, ‘Blue Skies’, ‘The Best Things Happen While You’re Dancing, and of course the legendary ‘White Christmas’!

The show is one close to director Stacey James’ heart: “White Christmas is my Mum’s favourite film, so when HAODS approached me about directing the classic, how could I refuse? No pressure then! The cast have been working hard tapping their way through big dance numbers and perfecting the harmonies for the well known Irving Berlin hits. As a director, I love to push the cast to create believable and relatable characters and I always have to get the comedy out of a show, so expect to meet some hilarious characters.“

As Christmas arrives in Horsham, the cast have been singing about snow and glistening tree-tops since May! You can catch a preview of the show, as they perform on the Carfax bandstand, on November 14 and 21 from 12pm- 2pm.

Stacey says it perfectly: “This fantastic show is a great way to start off your celebrations, put a smile on your face and warm your heart. If you are looking for a romantic date night, a treat for your nan or a girls night out, you will not be disappointed!”
