Abseilers sought to help Dame Vera’s charity

People who are not spooked by a challenge are being sought by a charity for a Halloween abseil.

Billingshurst-based Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity is running the Halloween-themed 100ft abseil at the Sandman Hotel in Crawley on October 31.

The charity is inviting people to be a ghost or wicked witch and be as creative and scary as possible with costume.

Registration is open to anyone age 13 or over and costs £30 a person with a minimum sponsorship of £100 a person.

Supporters watching the brave souls from the ground can enjoy the spectacular Owls Out and About (pictured) where you can meet and hold a variety of owls, including an African Spotted Eagle Owl, European Eagle Owl.

Catherine Bristow, the charity’s events fundraiser commented “As a charity the families we help rely on us so much and we want to continue to help them. Events like these which raise money means we can continue to do that Children with cerebral palsy may have a range of physical and cognitive impairments which effect their lives, one in three are unable to walk, one in four are unable to talk and three in four experience pain as an example. The service we provide can be life changing and it is completely free of charge. The public have been great in supporting our events and I hope they can help us once again.”

Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity provides a specialist service for families of young children with cerebral palsy and other motor learning difficulties. Parents and children learn daily living skills together at our School for Parents using the principles of Conductive Education.  It supports families with babies and children under five years of age.
