Roffey win with strong team performance

Saturday May 30 – Sussex Premier League

Roffey v East Grinstead

East Grinstead 200-9 declared (57 overs) Roffey 203-6 (51.4 overs)

Roffey won by 4 wickets

Reigning champions Roffey overcame a strong visiting East Grinstead side, earning 28 points placing them third, five behind Preston Nomads and ten behind leaders Brighton & Hove (who have played one more game).
After being inserting East Grinstead reached 89-1 with consistent 19 year old Fynn Hudson-Prentice going well on 67, but a flurry of wickets saw them slump to 109-5, slowing the momentum considerably. Roffey bowlers shared the spoils, Ben Manenti leading the way with 3-55 from 20 overs and Rohit Jagota taking 2-25. Four lower order batsmen reached double figures carrying the total to a respectable but not too daunting 200.
In reply Roffey soon found themselves in trouble on 20-2 but the depth of their batting took them home with eight balls to spare, Rohit scoring 56 with 6 fours and 2 sixes and Josh Fleming and Dan Smith notching up thirties, useful contributions also coming from Chris Webb, Ben Manenti and wicket keeper Matt Davies.
Josh Fleming said: “They’re a good young side, the best we’ve played against so far this season, and they got off to a good start but we restrained them well. It was a great team effort producing a good win for us!”
On Saturday June 6 Roffey visit mid table Eastbourne, comprehensively beaten by Preston Nomads last week.
