It was announced in the news on February 26, 2015, that Lance Corporal Joshua Leakey, 27, 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, has been awarded the Victoria Cross (VC) for his heroism in Afghanistan in 2013.
He received this honour at a ceremony at Lancaster House, London on Wednesday, February 25.
Josh is the first Old Blue (former Christ’s Hospital pupil 1999 -2006) to receive a VC since the First World War.
Head Master, John Franklin said: “Christ’s Hospital congratulates Josh on receiving the VC, an award of the highest valour. We are immensely proud of his achievement.”
Josh’s former houseparent commented: “Josh was a hardworking and lively pupil. I remember thinking that if I was ever on the battle-field, Josh would be the dependable person I would like by my side.”
After leaving Christ’s Hospital, Josh went on to study Military History at Kent University.
Three Old Blues have won VCs and one won a George Cross, the most recent was Lieutenant Colonel Wilfrith Elstob in March 1918 at the age of 29.
