It’s fast proving to be the hottest attraction in Horsham. Since opening their doors just four weeks ago, the till has barely stopped ringing at Cocoa Loco’s new shop in Piries Place. And last Thursday 18 members of the Horsham branch of Women in Business gathered to enjoy Prosecco, scrumptious handmade organic (and Fairtrade) chocolate and to do some early Christmas shopping.
Rory Payne Managing Director and MC for the evening said: “It was fantastic welcoming such an enthusiastic and vibrant group of women to showcase our gorgeous organic chocolates and brownies. They really appreciated the touches that make our chocolate so special and the fact that it is hand made in small batches by our artisan team of trained chocolatiers on the Knepp Estate in West Grinstead; just a stone’s throw from our shop in Piries Place. The evening went down a storm, so much so that we are planning another event for Women in Business in November. We will be showcasing our entire Christmas range that includes our legendary chocolate hampers, penguins, snowmen and chocolate plaques – gifts that are a hit with brands such as Abel and Cole, Oxfam and Jamie Oliver.”
Rory continued:”My wife and business partner Sarah has always wanted to open a chocolate shop. It’s been immensely rewarding for the whole team to see her vision realised. This is such an exciting time for us. We have an amazing team that cares about the products they produce. They’ve worked ridiculously hard to produce enough chocolate to fill our shop – which incidentally we managed to open in less than 2 days after we signed the lease and were given the keys!
“It is so important to us that our chocolate is produced to the highest welfare and environmental standards by people who care passionately about what they do and who are paid fairly for their skills and efforts. We love the fact that by working with Fairtrade we are showing our support for farmers and producers around the world and in doing so are making a positive contribution”.
Horsham has officially been a Fairtrade town since 2005; incidentally the same year that Cocoa Loco was born, with Sarah baking her award winning brownies in the Aga at home and then selling them on the internet and at local farmers markets.
