Work has begun as part of Westrock’s £35m redevelopment of the west end of Horsham which will see a new John Lewis at Home store and a new Waitrose supermarket.
Permission was granted for the development of the site earlier this year on the former grounds of Horsham Bowling Club and Lifestyle Ford, both of which have been relocated.
Westrock’s proposal will see the current Waitrose store in Piries Place, Horsham close and staff will be relocated to the new premises. The proposal will also see the part demolition and redevelopment of Bishops Weald House which will include new apartments, two retail stores and a gym.
Existing stores on the site including The Entertainer and Argos will remain in place however, McDonalds closed it’s Horsham restaurant in July after its lease was not renewed.
The new John Lewis store is expected to create 125 new jobs, and Waitrose will create 50 new jobs.
