CRICKET: Horsham bow out of the T20 cup

Sunday June 29 – Gray-Nicolls T20 Cup – Quarter Final

Horsham 140-6 East Grinstead 141-3

East Grinstead won by 7 wickets

Horsham’s cup ambitions are over for this season, hosts East Grinstead eliminating them at the quarter final stage with ten balls to spare.

Batting first after winning the toss Horsham were 29-2 in the fifth over with both openers gone, but a stand of 45 between James Johnson and Kamau Leverock improved matters by the half way point. Although captain Sam Attfield top scored with 32 and Tom Johnson weighed in with 2 sixes off as many balls, four other batsmen making double figure contributions, 140 was unlikely to prove sufficient unless Horsham could take early wickets. Stuart Whittingham removed home skipper, former Sussex professional Will Adkin, but despite two more wickets falling East Grinstead completed a relatively comfortable victory, wicket keeper Alex Carey scoring 44 and the impressive all rounder Ollie Graham ending with an unbeaten 39.

Horsham Vice President Kevin Bethell told the District Post: “Our innings got a bit stuck in the middle and we were only able to post a medium target. Their overseas player, Carey, batted particularly well, hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes in double quick time, carrying the game away from us.”

Horsham have an early opportunity for revenge when they entertain high flying East Grinstead in a Premier League clash tomorrow (Saturday).
