Celebrate Armed Forces Sunday in Horsham

This Sunday, June 29, Horsham Armed Forces Sunday will be held in the Carfax, Horsham Town Centre between 12 midday and 4pm.

The public event is being staged by Horsham District Council as a celebration of the signing of the Armed Forces Community Covenant which will take place between 2 and 2.30pm.

The short ceremony will also feature inauguration of the first Council Chairman’s Cadet, an award to be made annually to recognise exceptional service to the Community by a local armed forces cadet.

Static Displays of around 20 vintage military vehicles from the Military Vehicle Trust, an ex RAF static glider and Army and Cadet displays will provide plenty of interest for visitors of all ages. The local Air Training Corps, 1015 Horsham Squadron, will also have a climbing wall on hand for those feeling energetic enough to try their strength and skill.

There will also be the chance to win a trip for four people in a Spitfire flight-simulator, worth £120, courtesy of locally published Aviation Historian journal in conjunction with The Spitfire Experience. Visit their stall for more details on the day.

Entertainment planned includes the Swingtime Sweethearts recreating nostalgic favourite wartime tunes from the 1940s and The Borough Band.

Local businesses supporting the day include Forfars bakers, Rooney Estate Agents The Candy Box and Paninos.

Assisting Horsham District Council with arrangements for the Armed Forces Community Covenant signing at 2pm, Horsham’s Royal British Legion will be on hand throughout the afternoon as one of a number of service charities showing how they support our ex-servicemen and their families in the Community.

Invited guests to witness the signing include the Lord Lieutenant’s representative, Colonel Putnam, the High Sheriff of Sussex Paul Lucas, and Senior Military Officers, Council Members, the Royal British Legion and other armed forces charities.
