Extreme Horsham diver wins first event on world stage

By Benjamin Coren

Horsham’s very own Red Bull cliff diver, Blake Aldridge has won the first event in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series on Saturday, May 10.

Divers jumped from a 27-metre platform at Havana’s Morro Castle in Cuba.

Blake spoke to The District Post shortly after his win, he said: “Just before the last round I changed my dive. I went all out and did my world record backward handstand dive with two and a half somersaults and four twists.

“It feels unbelievable, last year I did the dive on every tour stop and missed it. To hit it and win was incredible.”

Between dives Blake trains at the Pavilions in the Park in Horsham. Blake said: ‘The Pavilions have given me a free gym membership to train and it’s really paid off for me.

“I really appreciate how they’ve allowed me to come in and train at the gym here.”

The next stop for on the tour will see Blake dive into Possum Kingdom Lake at Fort Worth, Texas on June 7.
