What’s happening at this year’s Piazza Italia weekend

Good Friday 10:30

The Ferrari and Ducati Catwalk sponsored by Jessops

Visitors can come along and feast their eyes and ears on a very special selection of classic Ferraris and exciting Ducati-led Italian bikes as they parade through the Carfax. With an entertaining and knowledgeable description of what can be seen over the PA system from the Ferrari and Ducati owners clubs, this will be a chance to learn more about the details of some of the finest machinery Italy can produce. In celebration of Piazza Italia 8’s major themes, sponsors Jessops are running a fabulous photo competition all weekend. To enter just take any photos from Horsham Piazza Italia 8 for printing at Jessops in Swan Walk. The best photos in each of four categories – cars and bikes, fashion, film and food – will be uploaded online for a chance to win fantastic prizes. Check with Jessops in Swan Walk Shopping Centre for full details.

The Ferraris and bikes from the parade will go on to park in The Forum and at the Shelley Fountain in the Bishopric respectively from 11 am.

Good Friday from 11am

The Piazza Piries Place Fashion Shows with Beales, La Vida and Tomoli & Will supported by B52s and Horsham Museum

Famous for fashion, the Italian people are synonymous with style and fashion so organisers couldn’t let another Piazza go by without introducing a live fashion extravaganza. Thanks to partners – Beales, La Vida and Tomoli and Will – there will be presentations of some top fashion styles throughout the day under the B52s canopy in Piries Place. With some great offers in these stores and others around the town, including relative newcomers Taking Shape, there is plenty on offer for fashionistas.

Good Friday and Easter Saturday

The Capitol Piazza Italia Film Festival

The Capitol Piazza Italia Film Festival continues from the previous Saturday (April 12), with a chance to win a great meal for two from Carmela for every festival film. Choose from The Talented Mr Ripley set against a rich Italian backdrop on Good Friday evening and Cars 2, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly – ‘a spaghetti western’ and the all-time-classic Michael Caine original Italian Job film running on Easter Saturday. See for details.

Saturday’s film theme is further enhanced with Boots in Swan Walk offering ‘Film Star Effects’ to ladies on the Mosaic in Swan Walk.

Easter Saturday

The Forum Children’s Zone sponsored by Guy Leonard

Responding to feedback wanting more for younger kids to do, there is a whole kids’ zone planned for The Forum, between Beales and Sainsbury’s, on Easter Saturday. Bags of film-related children’s activities await plus the Story Telling Theatre returns with Daisy White’s pop up bookshop along with author appearances, Busy Days face painting and a Mr Simms sweet stall. The Entertainer will be giving everyone the chance to get some hands-on action with some top toys and Sony Centre will have its amazing Sony PS Lap Time Challenge based there on the day.

Easter Monday

Vintage Crafts in Park Place with Pretty Things

Pretty Things will be hosting a number of vintage craft stalls and activities alongside their vintage tea room in Park Place. All public roads will be closed to traffic for the festival’s three days encouraging everyone to explore all of the quarter (East Street, Market Square, Piries and Park Place) and their profusion of independent shops and many cafes and restaurants.

All three days

Slot Car Rally in Swan Walk sponsored by A Plan Insurance

Not new but back by popular demand, the giant slot car circuit pits (also known as Scalextrix!) will see children battle against parents in the thrills and spills of racing own scale Ferraris, Minis or Supercars according to which day. Organised by the Rotary with assistance from partners, it’s a don’t-miss activity for all the family.

All three days

PlayStation racing with Sony Centre, Horsham

On the Carfax on Good Friday and Easter Monday and The Forum on Easter Saturday, Sony Centre has a brilliant Sony PS4 machine to give away to the owner of the fastest lap time recorded over the three days. So all budding racers better get practising for what is sure to be one of the hottest new activities of the event this Easter.

Easter Monday from 11am to 4pm (individual tasting times vary)

Contrada del Vino Italiana – The Italian Wine Tasting Tour – sponsored by Hepworths

Another popular feature, returning after a break last year, is Easter Monday’s Italian wine tasting tour. With at least a half dozen bars, shops and restaurants signed up, the tour offers wine enthusiasts a great opportunity to sample a varied selection of wines from the country that has more wine varieties than the rest of the world put together. Newly taking part and offering a great six-bottle prize is the new Horsham Enoteca on the Carfax. Carmela partner with La Source in East Street as their tasting venue and Marks & Spencer will be offering their tastings from the Swan Walk mosaic. Other outlets registered as of today include The Black Jug, Piries Bar, The Malt Shovel and Ask Italian. Wine tour passports can be picked up on Easter Monday from Hepworths on the Carfax and the pink Horsham District Council event control and information gazebo.
