One of the key things that springs to mind when thinking of Italy is the fantastic food. Whether it’s a margarita pizza, a simple lasagne or a scoop of ice cream, there’s something to tempt everyone.
The traditional Italian food market returns to Piazza Italia this year, opening on Friday, April 18, at 10am, and will be running over the whole weekend event. Visitors can expect a wide variety of tasty Italian produce, including cured meats, cheeses and fresh bread. Additionally, there is expected to be more Italian street food on offer than ever before.
As well as the Italian market, many local shops will be incorporating Italian themed food into the shopping experience for their customers.
Cafe Lotties Fayre is offering customers a free coffee if they purchase one of their two Piazza Italia themed sandwiches between April 7 and April 17.
Local clothes boutique, Taking Shape, will be serving prosecco and Italian style nibbles for their customers over the Piazza Italia weekend, as well as the weekend before as part of the Piazza Italia fortnight.
Debbie Lees, store manager at Taking Shape, said: “Piazza Italia pulls a lot of people into the town, we’ve had a lot of people saying they’ll be coming down for the weekend from places like Brighton and Guildford. It’s got a very good reputation.”
Returning this year after a break last year is the Italian Wine Tasting Tour. The event takes place on Easter Monday (May 1) from 11am to 4pm. Visitors will have an opportunity to sample a variety of Italian wines around the town centre. Wine Tour passports can be picked up from Hepworths on the Carfax and the HDC event control and information gazebo.
Visitors can also enjoy brand new event The Big Piazza Breakfast running this year on Monday, May 1, from 9am to 11am at various restaurants and cafes around the town. The perfect starter to the wine tour!
