In The District Post February 14th edition we revealed exclusively that this year’s county cricket festival at Horsham was under serious threat because of difficulty in obtaining sufficient sponsorship – a situation subsequently picked up on by other media outlets. Since that announcement Chris Wassell at Horsham Cricket Club and his dedicated team bolstered by the club office have continued to work hard in conjunction with Sussex CCC to secure the necessary funding and save the festival.
This is great news for local cricket supporters because this year’s festival features two outstanding county fixtures – on Monday 21st July Warwickshirecome for a four day game and on Sunday 27th Sussex host Nottinghamshire in a 50 over one day match. The Festival invariably produces entertaining, memorable cricket and is usually a happy hunting ground for Sussex. Since its inception over 100 years ago the festival has always been well attended by supporters of visiting teams enjoying the Horsham experience and this year the eagerly awaited matches will feature an exceptional parade of international players, promising to bring in big, enthusiastic crowds once again.
Horsham Cricket Club is working with Sussex to develop even closer ties with the county club and to ensure the future of the festival – further information will appear in next Friday’s paper.
