Councillor David Holmes has resigned as leader of the Liberal Democrats at Horsham District Council.
Cllr Holmes had served as leader of the group since 2004 with one short break. A new leader is expected to be chosen in the next few weeks.
Following the news of David Holmes’ departure Cllr Frances Haigh said: “I would like to pay tribute to Cllr David Holmes for the immense contribution he has made to Horsham in his time as Leader of the Liberal Democrats at Horsham District Council.
“Many people are unaware of the work involved in being a councillor. David has been very dedicated, working long hours to contribute to the decisions being made on behalf of residents. He is extremely knowledgeable and brings a wealth of business and managerial experience to the council. I am pleased that he is continuing as a councillor and we will still be able to benefit from his expertise.”
Cllr Haigh, as deputy leader, will be acting as leader until a new one is democratically elected by Liberal Democrats group.
