Firework display a huge success despite storms

Intrepid members of the public attended a fireworks event at Horsham Sports Club on Saturday, October 26, despite storm warnings.

Although there was torrential rainfall forecasted, the people of Horsham turned out in their thousands to enjoy a spectacular display in the surroundings of the Horsham countryside.

For half an hour the rain abated and the sky was lit up with wave after wave of awe inspiring colours, sights and sounds ingeniously put together by Aurora Fireworks.

In addition to the main event the finale filled the sky with huge stars of colour and noise to rival any world display.

Attendees enjoyed children’s entertainment, outside bars, food, and music from The Tube Snakes Band in the clubhouse afterwards.

St Catherine’s Hospice attended the event to assist with fund raising and the sports club will be making a donation to its other chosen local charity, The Springboard Trust.

Chris Wassell, acting chairman commented afterwards, “The Horsham public showed extraordinary resilience and fortitude on Saturday evening in taking on the elements and making our fireworks a huge sellout success for which Horsham Sports Club is extremely grateful.

“A huge amount of work goes into this family evening by club staff and volunteers determined to bring the community to the club and put on a genuinely family orientated evening of entertainment for all. This success helps us through the winter months and combined with our other events such as the Rock and Blues, Beer and County Cricket Festivals provides essential income to ensure that we can continue to provide Horsham with first class sporting and social facilities with little help from local or national government.

“The event was generously sponsored by local businesses including Barclays Bank, Strutt&Parker, VisionExpress and Lifestyle Ford and The District Post.

“This is our fourth year of staging a Fireworks event for the town but without the support of Horsham families this could not be the event it has become – a regular fixture in the Town’s Autumn Calendar. The Club is grateful to all those who purchased tickets and showed such faith in the club to deliver and despite the most inclement weather chose to join us in this annual celebration. Please come again next year and make it another sellout and we will endeavour to beat this year’s Fun and Fireworks and wow you all again.
