Horsham craft brewer Hepworth Brewers & Co is encouraging visitors to this weekend’s Big Nibble to experiment with beer and food matching.
Hepworths will be serving its range of popular beers including Blonde and Saxon craft lagers, Conqueror stout and Sussex ale from its bar in the Carfax, and is hoping that customers will enjoy them with the artisan foods offered by other stallholders at the Big Nibble.
Brewery founder Andy Hepworth said: “Beer has long been overshadowed by wine as a drink to accompany food, but that has started to change over the last few years – a trend that we of course applaud.
“Beer is a fantastic match to a range of foods and, we’d argue, better than wine as a partner to the artisan, locally-produced food served at the Big Nibble. Our beers are brewed largely from local ingredients, so it stands to reason that they will match the flavours of locally-reared meat or locally-grown produce far better than imported wine.“
Hepworths has participated in the Big Nibble for a number of years. Hepworth added: “We’re delighted with the way the Big Nibble has developed into one of the biggest dates on the Horsham calendar. It is a real treasure trove of local food and drink and a great way to kick off the month-long food festival.”
The Big Nibble is one in a string of local events over the summer where Hepworths has provided its fine beers, including Sparks in the Park, Ockley Flower Festival, the Cranleigh Show and, coming up soon, the Sussex Jazz Festival at Forest Row and the Pulborough Harvest Fair.
