Touring car driver David Nye, founder and director of D.W. Nye Builders Merchants Ltd in Horsham (www.dwnye.co.uk), is currently competing for the BTCC Jack Sears Trophy.
Driving the S2000 Ford Focus, David has high hopes for the next race in the championship that will take place on August 4 at Snetterton.
David said: “I’m feeling very confident about the upcoming race. Now I’ve managed to do some testing, I have a real understanding of the car. “We tried some different setups and I also got to drive my team mate Dan Welch’s NGCT car. I definitely preferred my S2000 Ford Focus.”
Despite being the oldest driver on the grid, 55-year-old David has been one of the top drivers for pace. David got involved in motor racing in 2005 through Daniels Motorsport, a racing team in Canterbury.
In 2009, he won the Ford Fiesta Championships after finishing first in every race that year. He went on to compete in the SEAT Cupra Championship UK, the Spanish Supercopa and the Eurocup series.
David isn’t the only one in his family with a need for speed. His son Rex, also a director at D.W. Nye, has followed in his father’s footsteps and has been competing since 2008, both with his father and on his own. Rex said: “I’m at Snetterton on July 20 as well in the Ford Fiesta Championship just a few weeks before my dad.”
Rex said: “We have a really good team at D.W.Nye so we are able to be away from time to time and still have the business run smoothly. Also, with Dad racing in the British Touring Car Championship, it’s a really good vehicle for promoting the business.”
